Ozarks Property Rights Congress is carrying on with heavy hearts after the loss of our president, c. Russell Wood. Russell passed away in the night on Thursday.

Russell became president in the fall of 2000 when the PRC was formed. His gentlemanly, but firm and informed way of handling those who found themselves on the opposite side of an issue,  made him an effective advocate.  People across the state of Missouri, and, the nation, greatly benefitted from Russell’s efforts as he confronted the many attempts to take away our American freedoms.

Even after his health forced him to work from home, Russell remained an active advocate for our private property rights, writing articles and letters, making phone calls, sending emails, and advising the OPRC board.

His last big property rights battle was against the formation of the Ozarks Highlands Heritage Area. He was deeply involved in informing the public of the dangers of  living within the confines of a heritage area, even though he was unable to attend the meetings. Through Russell’s efforts, and the following through of  OPRC, promoters of the Heritage Area withdrew their nomination. He was proud of that.

Russell will always be our example and OPRC will continue to battle for the citizens’ freedom to use their own property as they see fit. The spunk and pioneer spirit of c. Russell Wood will remain our inspiration.

Our hearts and prayers are with Joanne and the family in this time of sad loss.
